Remember the slogan, "The Internet changes everything"?
A global economic shift began roughly ten years ago, brought about by three forces: the mobility of talent, capital and knowledge. The engine for this global mobility sharing of talent, capital and knowledge was and is the Internet.
As a result, anyone from anywhere with determination and smarts can restructure a global industry. Intellectual capital is available to local entrepreneurs in emerging nations, and every company should expect intense competition from these newcomers at home and aboard.
Few people realize the advantages of developing multinationals amount to more than cheap labor and low currencies. Instead, their leaders are good executors who see niches in the global economy and can tap world intellectual capital and financial markets to consolidate control across their industries.
Only 9% of top executives at U.S. multinationals say America has gained a competitive edge over the past five years.
